Ernest Hemingway's Favorite Mojito Recipe

The Old Man and the Sea. A Farewell to Arms. The Sun Also Rises. One of the world's most famous novelists was also one of the world's most famous drinkers. So much so that he even invented a multitude of cocktail recipes. Spending some of his later years in Cuba, Papa Hemingway developed quite the fondness for rum and rum cocktails, but none more so than the Mojito. Hemingway's two favorite watering holes in Havana, La Floridita and La Bodeguita del Medio, still stand today. On a small plaque hanging in La Floridita hangs Hemingway's signed quote: "My mojito in the Bodeguita del Medio and my daiquiri in the Floridita."

Hemingway's Mojito

6 Fresh Mint Sprigs

1 oz. Lime Juice

2 Tbs Brown Sugar

2 oz. Light Rum

Lime wedge for Garnish

Crush the mint sprigs, lime juice and brown sugar in the bottom of a chilled highball glass. Pour in rum. Fill glass with crushed ice. Garnish with lime wedge and remaining mint sprig. Hemingway would often add a splash of club soda or champagne as well.
